Optimize emissions of your air freight shipments with RHEGREEN! By selecting aircraft with our global emission efficiency calculation tool, we can help you achieve corporate sustainability goals and enhance the sustainability performance of your air freight operations – all while boosting your operational efficiency.
Recognizing the importance of corporate responsibility, Rhenus has developed a special emission efficiency calculation tool for your global air freight: RHEGREEN. As a prime example of our shared commitment to achieving cargo sustainability, RHEGREEN is a calculation tool that empowers our customers to find and make an informed decision for the most efficient aircraft in terms of emission performance – to all destinations worldwide.
With RHEGREEN, you can estimate the amount of greenhouse gases (in terms of CO2 equivalent, CO2e) by considering the cargo loads during a specific flight and even select an aircraft or route based on emission performance to reduce the total emissions of your air freight*.
By consulting this easy-to-use tool, you can unlock the potential to avoid up to 40% of emissions per shipment, all completely free of charge as a value-added service from us.
Leave complicated calculations behind and trust Rhenus for a seamless transition with lower-emission options offered by RHEGREEN.
Instead of offsetting your air freight shipments’ carbon footprint, RHEGREEN is about comprehensively achieving air cargo sustainability. With RHEGREEN, you can make informed decisions, and achieve actual savings that can be verified.
Choosing the proper aircraft or route for a shipment of 1,000 kg on a long-haul flight could save you up to 1 metric ton of CO2e, equivalent to traveling 16,000 km by train or taking a trip from Amsterdam to Ankara and back by car.
RHEGREEN estimates CO₂ emissions per kg of cargo using aircraft specs, flight data and capacity-based allocation. Calculations comply with ISO 14083 and the Global Logistics Emissions Council framework, aiming for exact reporting for each shipment.**
Providing traceable figures about the impact of your shipment, RHEGREEN helps you make informed decisions in favor of more sustainable air freight choices. This increases your and your stakeholders’ awareness of your cargo’s environmental impact.
Team up with Rhenus to unlock the potential of RHEGREEN! Use our calculation tool to easily improve your emission transparency and create a reliable basis for your decisions.
Our air freight experts can help you combine and achieve emission efficiency and seamless air freight operations on a global scale.

Yes, it is possible. We can offer the RHEGREEN service on any long-haul route. Get in touch with our sustainable airfreight experts to find out how to improve your cargo sustainability.
The option with the least emissions is not necessarily the most expensive. The RHEGREEN service mainly focuses on finding the most fuel-efficient aircraft, regardless of what the operating airline charges for your chosen destination. Based on the results, you can determine the best aircraft of choice that suits your needs.
Yes, our experts for cargo sustainability are currently developing an option for ocean freight that also works on the same principle. As with RHEGREEN, the tool will be available for all ocean shipments from all origins to all destinations.
The purpose of the RHEGREEN tool is to estimate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions considering the cargo loads during a specific flight, defined by the departure airport and the arrival airport.
RHEGREEN is a tool that allows clients to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions (in terms of CO2 equivalent, CO2e) of the airfreight with regard to routings and carriers before the shipment booking.
The RHEGREEN tool estimates fuel usage per kg of freight per flight, which is converted into CO2e emissions. The estimated calculation is based on the technical specifications of the aircraft and operational data (e.g. flight distance, routing, aircraft type and weight).
The RHEGREEN tool calculates the estimated CO2e emissions based on capacity-based allocation, which assigns proportional emissions to passengers and belly cargo.
In the event that a RHEGREEN option shipment is unexpectedly offloaded by the airline, the shipment will be rebooked on the next available flight unless the ordering party provides other instructions (in writing).
The Rhenus Group and/or RHEGREEN cannot be held liable for the last-minute aircraft changes decided by the airline. These changes might consequently influence the CO₂e emissions profile of the cargo.
RHEGREEN methodology is in compliance with industry-approved calculation methodologies such as the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework and IATA RP1678, and is in alignment with the EcoTransIT World Initiative for aircraft emission data.
RHEGREEN is a trade name of the service of the Rhenus Group.
