Sustainable logistics and digital transformation: three Rhenus events at the BVL Supply Chain CX

The Bundesvereinigung Logistik e. V. (the German Logistics Association) is inviting companies to its BVL Supply Chain CX (formerly the German Logistics Congress) on 23 – 25 October 2024. The Rhenus Group is organising a panel discussion there for the first time and it will focus on the topic of the “Circular Economy”. The participants will shed light on the growing demands for managing supply chains. Markus Sandbrink, the CIO of the Rhenus Group, will also speak about electronic freight transport information (eFTI) as part of a specialist workshop organised by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. Finally, the Rhenus initiative known as “SheWINS” will invite interested women from the logistics sector to discuss issues on its trade fair stand.

The Rhenus Group’s panel discussion on the topic of the “Circular Economy – the New Complexity in Global Supply Chains” will take place on the opening day of the BVL Supply Chain CX on the centre stage at the congress. Ralf Düster (Setlog GmbH), Chris Gerfertz (Rhenus 4 PL Solutions GmbH), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen (Technical University of Dortmund and Fraunhofer IML) and Nils Bücker (the Managing Director and COO of RABE Moden GmbH) will be the discussion partners. The participants will shed light on the growing demands for managing supply chains, which result from political, economic and social factors. The discussions will not only focus on the latest results from research, but also the role of logistics and current projects designed to support the circular economy. What will a circular economy look like in industry, commerce and logistics in the year 2030? The panel will answer this and other questions.

Chris Gerfertz, the Managing Global Director of Rhenus 4PL Solutions GmbH, emphasises the strategic importance of this topic: “Sustainability is no longer an add-on in the logistics sector, but an integral part of our customers’ business strategy. As a logistics specialist, we play a key role in developing sustainable supply chains where we aim to support our partners with physical, but also, primarily, with end-to-end or all-embracing digital solutions.”

Specialist workshop on electronic freight transport information (eFTI)

Markus Sandbrink, the CIO of the Rhenus Group, will be taking part in the joint specialist workshop organised by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport in conjunction with the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) on the second day of the congress. The panel will shed light on the upcoming introduction of a European-wide digital network for electronic freight transport information (eFTI), which is set to go into service from 2027 onwards. The goal of the initiative is to increase efficiency in goods traffic, digitalise administrative interfaces and optimise controls by using the latest transport data.

#SheWINS – networking women in the logistics sector

Rhenus is using its #SheWINS project to send a powerful message to promote women and achieve gender equality in the world of logistics. Klaudia Vollmer, the Head of Strategy & Performance at Rhenus, will invite interested women from the sector to share ideas on the company’s trade fair stand on the Friday of the congress. “I’m delighted to be able to develop new ideas related to gender equality and diversity with strong women – because that’s how to create innovations and growth.” #SheWINS offers real opportunities to develop talent and jointly shape the future of logistics through mentoring, networking and transferring knowledge.

Webinar following the congress

A webinar entitled “Generation Bots: How to overcome obstacles in the logistics industry with process automation” also forms part of the partnership between BVL Supply Chain CX and Rhenus; this will take place after the congress, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday 19 November.  Marie-Louise Heidbrink (Head of Operational Excellence Germany) and Jan-Niklas Larisch (a Project Manager at Rhenus) will use it to discuss the effects of process automation on the logistics sector. More information about taking part in the webinar will be published in the near future via the BVL’s webinar broadcasting plan.

“We’re delighted to be able to discuss current issues in logistics together with sector colleagues at the BVL Supply Chain CX and provide some insight into our latest developments,” says Dr Stephan Peters, a Member of the Rhenus Group’s Management Board and a Member of the BVL’s Advisory Board, explaining the significance of this event. Visitors will have the opportunity to gain extensive information about the latest developments within the Rhenus Group on the Rhenus Group’s fair stand, C/64 in Convention Hall 2. Following the panel events, the Rhenus speakers will be more than happy to share ideas and give interviews.
