Ready, steady, go! Rhenus employees run thousands of kilometres to raise funds through the Rhenus Run Club - Charity Edition

Things run better when people pull together: in line with this motto, the international logistics specialist, Rhenus, launched its first global charity initiative. Colleagues from all over the world were able to participate in the Rhenus Run Club – Charity Edition on 18 to 22 September. Overall, 2,715 participants covered a remarkable 24,341.94 kilometres for a good purpose. The total donations amounting to EUR 25,000 are being given to the international non-governmental organisation (NGO), CARE International.

The international logistics specialist initiated a global project embracing different business sites for a good purpose through the Rhenus Run Club – Charity Edition for the very first time. 2,715 colleagues from 22 different countries joined forces for this and raised funds amounting to EUR 25,000 by running 24,341.94 kilometres in all. “Social projects are a firmly established part of the corporate culture at Rhenus. Our goal with the Rhenus Run Club – Charity Edition is to combine our family values as a close community with our social responsibility towards society,” says Karsten Obert, a Member of the Rhenus Group Management Board, explaining the initiative.

The ten prize-winning champions in the charity run came from nine different countries. Major sporting events were even held in India, Singapore and Bangkok and the 260-person team of runners even prepared for the run with several advance training sessions in Bangkok.

The global charity run has enabled Rhenus to demonstrate its commitment to the health of its employees and the solidarity of its global teams – as well as providing financial support for one of the world’s largest NGOs, CARE International. All the proceeds from the charity run are being donated to the NGO, which is active in more than 111 different countries with no less than 1,600 projects. It therefore has a positive effect on the daily lives of approx. 174 million people. Among other things, CARE provides emergency aid in crisis regions, supports women and girls in need and helps socially disadvantaged people. “The event is far more than a large-scale fundraising campaign. It’s also motivated by our close sense of solidarity as the Rhenus family and the will to perform at a peak level together,” says Dr Joana Bätz, the Chief Human Resources Officer at Rhenus.
