Rhenus has extensive experience in handling requests in the fashion sector, particularly in the sports segment. Seasonality is an important factor in this business. Using TRW, Rhenus can offer flexible solutions and appropriately adapt the storage areas to the level of demand required by its customers. As a result, the warehouse can also be used as an overflow storage site in order to balance things out during relevant peaks.

The fields of activity in the sports clothing sector are extremely varied. They range from picking for specific persons for special events to unloading individual cardboard boxes from overseas containers. One central element in our business involves, for example, handling returns. Remaining stock items, which have not been sold, are regularly delivered. The task here involves assessing the individual articles using the customer’s own goods management system. Rhenus initially checks the quality of the goods and decides whether they are suitable for resale. Depending on whether the articles are part of current collections or discontinued items, the goods are assigned to the relevant category. The categories indicate what will then happen to the goods. Depending on their classification, the items are either made available for resale, are sold off in fairly large quantities or are destroyed. Items with the same category and attribute (accessories, textiles or shoes) are then packed into cardboard boxes, placed on pallets and put into storage. When requested, the packed pallets are removed from storage and most of them are transported via the Rhenus network.
