Weserport trainee honoured as the best examinee by the DIHK (German CCI)

Sebastian Heinemann, a former trainee at Weserport, was commended as the best German examinee in the CCI’s final examinations for “port logistics specialists” at a ceremony in Berlin on Monday. The 30-year-old also managed to complete his training in the summer of 2017 in just two, rather than three years.

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) honours the approx. 200 best trainees in its vocational professions on an annual basis. Sebastian Heinemann’s year was honoured in the presence of almost 1,000 guests at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin; this was the twelfth time that this ceremony was held. The initiative is not only designed to highlight the prize-winners, but also the enormous breadth of the almost 250 different jobs that require training and are organised by the CCI.
“I felt very well supported throughout my training period at Weserport. I always had somebody to discuss matters at my side for the vary varied tasks that I faced,” Sebastian Heinemann reports; he is now working as a port logistics expert at Weserport. “I particularly enjoy the variety of tasks and dealing with different colleagues in my work as a port logistics specialist. It’s also a great feeling to be able to handle exciting shipments directly at the quayside with a fresh wind blowing in your face.”
Sebastian Heinemann’s training year was the last to receive college-based training in the federal state of Bremen. In addition to their practical training at the company, the apprentices have completed their training at the vocational college in Bremen up to now.
“In future – and this includes the current 2017/2018 year – trainees seeking to become ‘port logistics specialists’ will be taught at the vocational colleges in Nordenham and Elsfleth in Lower Saxony,” says Lothar Fitzner, Terminal Manager and Head of Training at Weserport. “As the apprentices have to travel much further to their vocational college, we’ve unfortunately already seen the number of trainees drop this year – a fact that we very much regret.”
