The in-depth study carried out by the Rhenus teams, with the help of transport optimisation software, highlighted the need to modify the existing logistics scheme in order to better deliver to Daikin's French customers. Previously based on the use of two warehouses, one in Ostend in Belgium and the other in Saint-Quentin Fallavier, near Lyon, the logistics organisation will be based, from January 2021, on a new warehouse on the outskirts of Bordeaux for the delivery of all customers in the west part of France. This new logistics activity will be managed by Rhenus in a new multi-client warehouse that will be operational at the beginning of 2021.
"In twenty years of cooperation, Daikin's storage and transport needs have changed significantly. Our teams had already made changes as part of the continuous improvement process. But that was no longer enough. In order to meet the requirements of Daikin's customers, we therefore proposed a global logistics solution optimised in terms of logistics and transport with the use of the latest generation software providing more efficient functionalities", explains Laurent Schuster, President of Rhenus Logistics France.
Under the new contract, Rhenus will continue to manage the storage and order picking of all goods in the French warehouses and to handle all deliveries to Daikin's business customers in France. Deliveries are very diverse, ranging from postal envelopes to full trucks, express, courier or charter. Rhenus also takes care of the logistics of returns, if required.
"We are very pleased to continue our long-standing cooperation with Rhenus. Our logistics provider has been able to challenge itself and offer a suitable logistics solution. In the end, we will benefit from a logistics scheme that will enable us to improve service to our customers with shorter delivery times. This new scheme also guarantees a possible adjustment to our growth prospects, which are still looking good over the next few years", says Dominique Dovis, Senior Manager Logistic ESC France at Daikin.
