The complete acquisition of the company is enabling the Rhenus Group to expand its Road Freight network and strengthen its presence in the region between its business sites in Dietzenbach in Hessen and Pleidelsheim in Baden-Württemberg. The logistics specialist, which is very active in the chemical industry, can therefore serve the important business region of Mannheim/Ludwigshafen even better – and offer its customers the company’s entire portfolio of products. The customer relations of Mannheimer Transport-Gesellschaft, which have developed over the years, are particularly important for the Rhenus Group. “We’re integrating an efficient and locally rooted partner within our company in the form of Mannheimer Transport-Gesellschaft. We’re delighted by the addition of well-trained and highly motivated employees to the Rhenus family and would particularly like to be a reliable services provider for the existing customers,” says Nenad Lukic, the Managing Director of Rhenus Road Freight.
Founded in 1927 as a transport company, MTG now employs 150 people and has established a firm foothold in the Rhein/Neckar metropolitan region. Its core business, which generates turnover of EUR 30 million per annum, includes domestic and international shipments of general cargo, part loads and complete loads. The company has cargo handling buildings with warehouse space measuring 10,500 square metres so that it is able to provide temporary storage. As an owner-managed company, MTG relies on short decision-making paths and continual growth and also has a reputation for being a strong training enterprise. MTG has been linked to the Rhenus Group through cooperation for many years – because both companies form part of the CargoLine logistics network.
The Mannheim-based company will continue to use the MTG brand, even after the takeover, which includes all the employees too. “Given the increasing consolidation in the general cargo markets and the constant increase in demands for IT services as a result of digitalisation, we’re certain that this merger and the economic muscle associated with it will give us the opportunity of guaranteeing that our customers and partners will enjoy the accustomed planning reliability for their supply chains in future too. Not least, the change in control will offer our employees just as good future prospects,” say Walter and Gerhard Bayer, the founders of MTG. Provided that the German monopolies commission provides its consent, the Rhenus Group will take over the company retrospectively from 1 January 2023.
