Podcast episode 24: Sustainable packaging in distribution logistics

A feature already established in the world of gastronomy is now also finding its way into distribution logistics: reusable packaging for the environmentally friendly shipment of goods. In Logistics People Talk, logistics solutions provider Rhenus and packaging innovator hey circle are focusing on this topic and report on their initial experiences in the B2B and B2C sectors.

In the latest podcast episode, Dominik Schmidt, Head of Sustainability at Rhenus Warehousing Solutions Germany, and Dominik Moers, Business Development Manager for packaging innovator hey circle, talk about the challenges and innovative ideas for achieving sustainable transport packaging. After all, there are many requirements to consider in commercial distribution logistics in particular - from a wide variety of dimensions and customised packaging to efficient collection systems for returns.

hey circle is one of the companies that specialises in precisely these packaging systems and is already cooperating with Rhenus to make the shipping of goods as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. Rhenus is already working intensively on sustainable transport packaging options in the Warehousing Solutions unit. Dominik Schmidt reports on a number of established cost-saving options such as packaging robots or machines that cut cartons to the specific dimensions of the goods. While cardboard is still used, these options save space and material, which already has clearly noticeable effects.

However, the two experts also address the boundaries for the use of reusable packaging. Find out what this means for the future of distribution logistics here - at Logistics People Talk.
