While South Africa is known for its natural beauty, cultural diversity and having three capital cities – to name just some of its attributes – it’s very well connected in terms of transport and boasts a healthy import and export market. In addition to a thriving rail network, South Africa is located on one of the busiest international sea routes.
The Rhenus air freight trade route to South Africa from the UK has been running for three years and has gone from strength to strength. Twice weekly, on Saturday and Sunday, Rhenus ships to Johannesburg Airport with partner Virgin Atlantic. Goods can be collected from one of nine UK hubs every Thursday, arriving in Johannesburg by Monday.
Rhenus has a broad spectrum of expertise in terms of the types of goods it handles on this route, including engineered parts and high value items. And, once in South Africa, Rhenus provides onward transportation of goods to six regional locations.
Patricia Garrow, UK Commercial Manager Air & Ocean at Rhenus UK, said: “The UK and South Africa have been significant trading partners for many decades. This partnership relies on having the right logistics routes in place that are efficient, cost-effective and reliable. Rhenus has been able to meet these requirements thanks to its extensive global expertise and the UK’s excellent relationship with the well-established team locally in South Africa.”
