A LOOK BACK

On 26 and 27 September 2023, more than 185 participants gathered in Heidelberg and Hockenheim to explore the latest developments in warehouse management. The teams presented exciting innovations at ten different market stands in two locations and discussed the future of warehousing.

FROM COLLEAGUES FOR COLLEAGUES

UNDER THE MOTTO “WSD FOR FUTURE,” INNOVATION, AUTOMATION AND THE INTELLIGENT EMPLOYMENT OF AI WERE AT THE CENTRE OF THIS YEAR'S EVENT.

Inspiring presentations by the management, members of the Executive Board and numerous colleagues gave the participants valuable insights into how WSD can further optimise customer experience for our partners in the future. They also discussed our current and still important energy policy just as intensively.

The so-called “World Café” method at the end of the event was used to provide space for colleagues to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

Under the motto “Full Potential for Future,” we have given a lot of thought to how we can strategically position ourselves for the future and continuously develop in order to provide our customers with optimum added value.

Only by shaping tomorrow today will we continue to be successful and achieve the optimum for both us and our customers.
As always: We work together as one TEAM to UNLOCK the full potential of both our CUSTOMERS and our PEOPLE!

In order to achieve the greatest possible success, it is essential to leave our comfort zone. In doing so, we must learn from both our past successes and our past failures. Every crisis also contains an opportunity for us to seize. By working closely together as a global team, we will achieve our goals and become one of the top players.

Our long term goal is to make Blue Yonder a success. To move our major project forward, it is crucial that we work on a standardised global solution. Rhenus will be successful if we do not shy away from challenges and realise our full potential.

Presentation on the Introduction of the Locus Robot.

Our Locus Robots project in Hörselgau offers an answer to the long-standing problem of staff shortages.

Locus Robots are proving to be the ideal solution as they can be implemented in conventional warehouse structures without major structural modifications. The efficient use of these robots has increased productivity by 50% and reduced labour requirements by 33%. With 135 robots in use, savings of up to €1,500 per week are possible. Alongside Adidas and DHL, we are one of the pioneers in Germany of using this technology and also the largest single unit.

Presentation on the Implementation of Autostore for GANT.

In order to meet the constantly growing demand for storage space for our customer GANT, we have been successful in planning the implementation of the Autostore system at our Duisburg warehousing site. This creates a higher storage density and therefore generates more storage capacity. The advantages of Autostore are many and varied, ranging from space-saving storage and protection against dust and theft to the possibility of automatic sequencing.
With the implementation of Autostore, we have signed a multi-year contract with GANT and have also been able to expand our business in the Benelux region, where we will serve both the B2B and B2C sectors. Autostore is scheduled to go live in May 2024.

Last year, we faced the major challenge of significantly expanding our People & Culture team. Therefore we are very pleased to be able to say today that we have turned 2 teams into a total of 4 teams with 23 employees and gained many new colleagues.

As the People & Culture team, we want to act as a strategic partner at your side. Only if we get together in a lively exchange we can look more strongly towards the future and work together to further strengthen personnel topics and a culture of cooperation.

  • What did you think of the WSD Days?

It was a great event! As part of the People & Culture team, I was particularly pleased that not only I, but all participants particularly enjoyed the opportunity for personal networking – away from teams. My feeling was that we all went home happy and knocked out with a new motivation to work together and even more understanding for each other.

  • What impressed you the most?

I'm still new to logistics, so I had a real logistics lesson at the Hockenheim site. Seeing the robots in action there and in the real environment was really impressive!

  • What benefits did you take away from the event?

In addition to getting to know each other personally (see above), I found it very inspiring to adapt my own approach to new topics. I want to do more experimenting and testing, to observe and then adjust! That really stuck with me.
